Mentoring and Developing Leaders

Walang leader na mabubuhay forever. We have to develop our people so that the organization can outlive our lives. For the past two decades ito ang paraan ko para tumaas ang “sending capacity” ng ministeryo at ma-enhance ang leadership skills ng lahat ng taong pumapasok sa aming iglesya.

Spend considerable amount of time with them. Quantity shall result in quality. When I say “considerable”, at least twice a week to talk about things that affect their personal lives and ministry and discussion of leadership/discipleship lessons. You can do it online (i.e. FB chat) or offline. Diyan nabubuo ang relasyon sa bawat isa. Interaction is the gateway to emotional and spiritual closeness.

Be willing to spend money for them. Remember: your investments shall never go to waste.

Be available in times of need. Be a proxy-parent to your leaders. Be willing to assume the parental roles kung kinakailangan. Kapag minahal mo sila, siguradong mamahalin ka nila.

Gradually delegate to them the work of the ministry. Pagkatiwalaan mo sila kahit nagkakamali. Mas lalo silang matututo kapag naranasan nila ang pagkakamali. Always have debriefing sessions to evaluate actions.

Be a model for your members. Wala namang ibang susundan sila kundi ikaw. More is caught than taught. Be Christ-like in all your ways.

Be willing to be rebuked for your mistakes. I always tell my members that they SHOULD rebuke me when I am wrong o wala na sa hulog ang ugali. Let them assess your leadership with honesty and transparency. Makakatulong sa iyo nang husto iyan.

So, it is now your turn to share your thoughts. Masayang pag-usapan iyan.
